Women Walk the World

The 2022 walk was held on Friday 29 April at 10.30am starting at The Hive, Worcester, for a walk along the River Severn to Diglis Bridge and back (approx 1 hour). This was in aid of Associated Country Women of the World.

Here are some of our our ladies on a previous Women Walk the World stroll around Worcester in support of the ACWW.

Salwarpe WI Walk

October 2018

A beautiful autumn day saw us walking not far from home. There were some familiar paths with some surprises along the way. We set off walking in the woodland that borders Pulley Lane before heading across the edge of Oakley Wood. We then walked on footpaths round a variety of fields to “Dave’s” Garden Centre.

After tea and coffee we walked across the fields running roughly parallel to the A38, though you wouldn’t have known there was a road for miles around. We stopped by the ponds ( which some ladies hadn’t realised were there)  to look at the wild birds and then returned to our starting point.

February Walk

The footpaths around Droitwich have been very muddy so we decided to go to Worcester and walk along the river. We were very lucky and the weather was beautiful for this time of year, though it was cold in the shade. Given the ‘freshness’ of the breeze we maintained a good pace and had soon walked from the Pump House to Diglis. We then walked along the other side of the river back into town.

We had tea/coffee and Danish pastries at the Palace. The pastries were delicious and it was fascinating to see inside the bishops’ former residence.

January Walk

It was so wet and muddy we tried to stick to main footpaths. We set off from St Peter’s Church carpark and headed to the canal via Cockshute Hill. When we got to the canal we took the tow path along to the Eagle and Sun. The pub was shut but we were fortunate enough to find a small cafe in the wharf. I am not sure what the owner thought when his quiet was shattered by eight chattering women! He brought down chairs from upstairs so we thought it was only polite to sit down for a while and catch up on the news.

Once we were refreshed we headed back to town, walking through the Lido Park to return to the carpark. We were very lucky with the weather and we had beautiful bright day which felt like Spring.

October

We will meet on the 23rd at 9:45 in the carpark to Salwarpe village hall. Bring some cash with you as we will be walking along the canal tow path to a cafe in town.

July

We met at Churchfields and then walked through Salwarpe to the canal. We took the canal path to Ladywood and then returned to Churchfields along the side roads. We were very lucky with the weather which was ideal for walking, warm but not hot, with a light breeze. It was a slightly shorter walk than normal but we still managed to fit in lots of chatting! We then finished our conversations over tea and coffee.

Even though we do not normally have a walk in August we decided that it would be nice to meet up for a walk. Further details will follow shortly.IMG_9194

September’s Walk

As it was so wet and slippy after meeting in Hanbury Woods’ carpark we decided to alter our route and drove to Hanbury Church. We walked to the canal and from there to Hanbury Hall. We didn’t think the National Trust would want us treading mud everywhere so we continued on back to our cars, changed our shoes and then went for tea and coffee in the church.UNADJUSTEDNONRAW_thumb_145cb

May’s Walk

After meeting in St Peter’s carpark we walked through St Peter’s Fields to the canal. The sun was shining and we had a lovely stroll along the canal, Three of us were so busy taking pictures of a swan on her nest that we nearly missed where the rest of the group crossed the road to the public footpath to Hadzor, but luckily they waited for us. We went  by the old Catholic press where Bibles used to be printed and then walked down to the Catholic Church. We walked along one of the public footpaths that skirt Gaudet Luce golf course and then back  to the carpark. The walk was about 4 1/2 miles long. Afterwards Pauline treated us to coffee and cake to celebrate her birthday.

April’s Walk

We met a bit earlier than usual and drove up to Waseley Hills Country Park. We decided to follow their signposted “Rabbit Trail”. There were some great views over Worcestershire and Birmingham and we enjoyed ourselves identifying places we recognised. We got back to the Visitors’ Centre just in time to avoid the rain.
